The origins of Amarillo date back to May of 1980 when the members of two defunct groups united to form the band. In 1981, they recorded the Bob Dylan tune "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight"and a Nick James original entitled "I Need Your Love Tonight" for Desert Sun Records. In 1984 they returned to the studio for Desert Sun Records to record "Route 66" and "Born Again" (another Nick James original composition).
Fans waited patiently until 1995 for the band's next release entitled "You Don't Belong To Me" which was issued on Stardust Records, Nashville, Tennessee. The project received airplay as far away as Europe and to this day
it is featured on the "Let There Be Country" radio show hosted by Paul Bain on WFDU 89.1 FM.
In 1997 Nick James was nominated by Airplay International for their "King Eagle Rising Star Award". 1998 brought the release of the bands latest CD / cassette entitled "Kickin' Back".
Amarillo has an affinity for incorporating "off-country" styles into their Country Music with touches of swing, rock, blue grass, boogie, blues, and southern rock The band continually strives
to please a wide variety of audiences while maintaining a true country spirit.
